studio

Since graduating from the Maastricht Institute of Arts in 2010, Valentin Loellmann has been producing furniture and spatial works with Studio Valentin Loellmann in Maastricht. What began in a smaller atelier gradually developed into an independent practice where he and his team create sculptural, hand-shaped pieces, interiors, and spatial works for clients, collectors, and galleries around the world. Over the years, the Studio has grown into a larger team and changing interns who are all contributing to the continuous process through which the work is developed and made.

In 2021, the studio moved into this former gas factory, where the atelier and furniture production now form the working heart of the building. Most of the change in and around the factory has happened around the Studio. The same team, together with the many people who have passed through the atelier over the years, has been closely involved in building, shaping, and transforming the factory into what it is today.

While the furniture continues to be created for collectors and galleries worldwide, it also makes the ongoing transformation of the factory possible. In this sense, the Studio and the building are inseparable: the work sustains the factory, and the factory gives shape, energy, and direction to the work. What is produced here is not only furniture, but part of a larger continuous process of building, experimenting, and creating a place that can eventually be shared with others.
